CBD: Why use it?

CBD oil could provide many benefits, taking on a daily basis can help augment the body's naturally occurring endocannabinoids. It's important to remember that CBD oil, while extracted from hemp, contains trace or no THC which is the psychoactive chemical in marijuana which causes a high. 

Cannabidiol (CBD) oil is increasingly becoming well-known because of the potential health benefits. Many medical studies have been conducted, and some are still on-going. However, we've listed six potential medical uses for CBD oil.

 

CBD oil and anxiety relief 

CBD can help people manage anxiety, by acting on receptors in the brain CBD oil can reduce the feeling of anxiety. It's thought that the oil can decrease the physiological effects of anxiety, help users relax , sleep and reduce stress.

 

Seizures and CBD oil 

Some research into the effects of CBD oil on people suffering from seizures has shown that consuming the oil can help reduce the number of seizures experienced. Research carried out by the Lancet in 2016 followed patients with epilepsy. Over 12 weeks of research, patients suffered 36.5% fewer seizures per month. The research did also track side effects, 12% of patients did experience negative side effects. 

 

Pain relief

With CBD oil acting on the brain's receptors it is believed that it can act on pain, helping patients manage the pain. Research carried out by the National Institute of Health reviewed the effects of cannabis on relieving pain caused by MS, arthritis, spinal cord injuries, muscle pain and other chronic pain. Further research is required however it's believed that the CBD oil also has anti-inflammatory properties which can help in reducing pain. 

 

CBD oil to treat Cancer 

Early research has pointed to CBD being useful in preventing cancer cell growth as well as alleviate pain caused by treatment. Research is still very early, but reports from non-medical professionals suggest that there are some benefits to the use of the oil.

 

Degenerative diseases

Neurodegenerative diseases are diseases which gradually cause the brain and nerves to deteriorate over time. Currently, there is research ongoing which is looking at the positive effects of CBD oil on illnesses such as Alzheimer's, MS, Parkinson's and recovering stroke victims. 

 

CBD oil treating Acne

It's thought that with CDB oil acting as an anti-inflammatory may offer benefits for acne management. A study conducted by the JCI found that CBD oil acts on the sebaceous glands, these glands create the natural oily substance that keeps the skin 'hydrated.' However, too much of this oil can lead to bad acne, therefore by using CBD oil; it's possible to relieve acne symptoms. 

 

CBD oil and medical treatment

As referred in the above article it is possible, based on early research, that CBD oil can have benefits in treating medical conditions. It's still early days, and it's likely more research will shed more light on the potential benefits of CBD oil.
